This blog was started in order for me to post my english paper on-line, so that I could share them with everyone. That way they get a little more use, than just for class. However, I am also planning on posting issues pertaining to Information Technology, life concerns, and other random thoughts I have that get me heated up. Chad L. Ries

Gov Scott's attack on teachers.
I would really like to see someone conduct a research paper on Gov Scott's "reform" of our teachers pension. I find it appalling that of all the decent to well paid government workers out there, he is going after teachers. I would love to know how much Gov Scott's staff gets paid and what their pension consits of. I would also love to know why he chooses to pick on the educators of our future. What benefit is he giving teachers to encourage more people to enhance the learning of our young. I believe he is only broadening the gap between the rich and poor. I believe more and more people will be putting their children in private school ..... if they can afford it. IE: I guarantee our teachers children won't be found in a private school.

All I have to say is Michelle Rhee. Waiting for Superman. Coming from a teachers perspective, no I cannot tag along with the teachers believe in the union in the education system as it is right now. There are a lot of teachers who believe that they are entitled to their paychecks and their benefits, but look at the learning experience and education that they are producing for our children. Teaching needs to grow and develop with our technologies. There are teachers out there who have no idea how to use a computer, a Smart Board. These are things that need to be utilized in a classroom because this is how are children are being raised, they are surrounded by technology.
ReplyDeleteAs I see it, a teacher should be paid based on merit. They should not have the security of a union and tenure. Honestly, a lot of teachers get tenure after 3 years… 3 YEARS! Do you think that is adequate time for a teacher to hold their job for a lifetime? A teacher should be paid on what they put into the education system and the efforts and attempts that they make and the quality that comes out. There are so many teachers out there that think it is an easy job. I cannot figure it out.
I am currently in the process of moving my daughter from one school district to another due to performance and lack of dedication and determination by her teacher. I looked at the stats of the districts. The district that she is currently in spends $6,000 on a student a year, and their scores are 5-10% lower that the school that she will be attending where they spend $8,000 on a student and they are scoring all above 93% on all tests.
Teachers feel that they are the victims here. They are not, the children are the victims. Maybe if a teacher improves their work ethic and produces students with better scores they deserve a $143,000 a year salary and no tenure… I think they do… compared to the 50 year old teacher who is burnt out and is still using lesson plans that she wrote 10 + years ago… just a thought….
Not to say that the teachers are all to blame. It’s the economy also. Think about it. If both parents work in a house you get to spend MAX 4 hours with your child a night to do homework and make dinner, baths, and bed, and OH YEAH.. can you fit some fun in there also? There are just too many tangents to go on with this topic… its hard to pin it to one thing.
